Everybody deeply appreciate the great treasure that is Colombian musical instruments, such as Colombian tiple, made in coral wood, with clear lines and awesome authentic color, with twelve metal strings arranged in four courses. Any professional or student guitarist will find it easy to use in Colombian folk music, and in many Latin American songs. Musicians can use it in Latin American folk jazz music, but also in original songs as well. Tiple’s ethereal and clear sound is also used in classic guitar music creations.
Colombian Cuatro is concert grade guitar; it is made of slices and blocks from curly maple. It has a violin shape and has a great pitch accuracy and finish. The seis’ is a hybrid of the cuatro and a supplementary sixth course tunes a fourth below the usual fifth bottom course. It is also a very popular Colombian musical instrument. This feature allows an expanded bass range. It can be used also for guitar intervals as well, and it makes a awesome music, It sounds as a guitar, but sweeter, faster and louder.
Original Colombian music instruments
Spanish and African traditions are strongly represented in Colombian music. Traditional quena, a king of flute, and Spanish guitar are very popular. Colombian bandolina has fifteen strings and its sound is beautiful, sweet and clear. It is usually made by hand, of unexcelled quality. The marimba is another Colombian musical instrument; it looks like a xylophone and its keys are made in wood. The arpa is a local version of the harp, the guassa is a rattle. The songs from the Pacific coast are using drums and are tinged with Spanish influence. Due to the Spanish influence, piano music is also very popular in Colombia. The newest music style in Colombia is valenato, based on the European accordion.
Many Colombian musical instruments are beautifully crafted, from the ancient times until our century. The charango, a kind of guitar made in wood, the vessel whistle, the erkencho, a kind of clarinet, the chirimia, an oboe, are carefully made and original Colombian folk music sounds great with them. There are six ethnic zones in Colombia; the music is a hybrid between Indian roots and Spanish traditions. In some regions, there is also a strong Negro influence. Guitars, flutes and drums are always necessary; in the Caribbean zone the most important Colombian musical instrument is gaita, a kind of oboe. In Colombia, music is a tradition. There is a habit to pass folk songs from one generation to the other.
It amazes me to see people buy musical instruments for their kids or themselves, how they go right out and get the most expensive top of the line one they can find. Especially if they are just starting out.
Maybe they believe that getting a high priced instrument will somehow make them play better or they are convinced they will actually stick with this venture. But unfortunately for most of them, they will lose interest in it after awhile and it will work it’s way into the closet.
Fortunately for us this is good news and is my first tip for getting a good deal. Look for classifieds in the musical instrument section of the newspaper or online and search for “like new” or “barely used” items.
When you find what you want, do a preliminary check of what it’s going for new. Go out and inspect the instrument visually and try it out. Then negotiate your best deal. I usually offer about 60% of what it is worth new if it’s not too old and in very good condition.
Tip 2 would be to check out moving sales. Again, look in the newspaper or online. You can get all kinds of deals here, on most anything. But especially on the larger musical instruments like piano’s, organs, etc.
Tip 3 would be Ebay. Not my favorite and can be risky. Make sure to question the seller thoroughly about the item in question, don’t overpay for shipping (which alot of times includes handling charges) and make sure you get generous time to return it if necessary.
On the flip side of it, Ebay is great for selling bargains you may find that your not going to personally use. Musical instruments are popular on Ebay and can be a great way for you to make extra money.
Lastly, I would check out your local music store and see if they have any sales going on with new closeout instruments or any good trade ins you can buy at a bargain. Just remember that the store owner is looking to make a profit on it, so make sure it’s a good deal and negotiate.
I am based in the UK and we get the X factor, which is the same as American Idol except for the age limit. With the X Factor, there is no age limit. In the UK, we also get to watch American Idol on ITV2. The best part of these programs has got to be the auditions. Here you will find some of the finest comedy ever seen on television, but does it produce the finest singers. In my opinion defiantly not.
Yes, there are some good singers, but no better than I have seen in clubland over the past thirty years. As a keyboard player I have worked with thousands of singers some totally rubbish some are ok, you know, a nice singer. Then you have the good singers, well rehearsed, and well dressed a bit of polish to the act. Then you have the WOW what a singer. I can count them on one hand in over thirty years of working in clubland.
Now this is just my humble opinion of course. I am not a singer; Ive just worked with lots of them. Granted I work in back street clubs and pubs and American Idol has the best equipment, musicians, producers, promotion and the whole world to sell it to, but a singer is a singer right. The only difference is the environment one is a pie and a pint the other is caviar and champagne.
So maybe the title of this blog should read, Does the X Factor and American Idol Produce Great Television? absolutely, one hundred percent YES. Now be honest, how many of you are not that bothered about watching or dont bother to record the show once the auditions are over. All right some of you, but thats only because Simon Cowell is dishing the dirt.
I know some of the singers that applied for the X factor and they didnt even reach the auditions stage. Not because they are bad singers, if they were bad they would probably reach the auditions. The reason is, they are not good enough to make it all the way and they are not bad enough or funny enough to make good television.
I certainly wish all the singers that have won these competitions the very best. Will they be top selling artist? I havent seen much evidence of that in the UK. I must conclude that the X factor and American Idol create great television and make millions of pounds/dollars and give an extraordinary opportunity for a few not great, but good singers.

If you really enjoy the art behind tattoos, then perhaps you will want to consider becoming a tattoo artist and making a living out of it. A great tattoo artist can make a pretty comfortable living out of their trade, but not everyone is cut out to do this job. There is a huge investment in time and money required to become a successful tattoo artist.
The one thing that every aspiring tattoo artist needs is artistic talent. If you cannot draw then the life of a tattoo artist is not one for you. Those who are talented enough, or think they can be will need to hone their talent by taking some fine art classes, and spend a lot of time practicing.
When you think that you have progressed far enough as an artist you will then want to build yourself a portfolio of work. You will use this portfolio to try to secure an apprenticeship with an experienced tattoo artist. Apprenticeships can be free, or can cost a few thousand dollars; it all depends on the person who is training you. Make sure that you work out a contract that suits both of you and clearly states what the mentor will provide, and for how long.
The person who chooses to apprentice you should take an active interest in your journey to become a fully qualified tattoo artist. It can take quite a while to find the right apprentice, but you shouldnt rush your decision as it will affect the rest of your life. The right mentor can make the difference between you becoming a good tattoo artist, or a great one. If the tattoo artist you are considering has mentored other apprentices, see if you can talk to them about their experience.
Of course, you will not be paid during your apprenticeship, so you will also need a regular job to support yourself, unless you are lucky enough to have some other source of funds. Meanwhile your teacher will show you how to clean equipment, operate a tattoo machine, and how to apply a tattoo. Over a period of several months or even years you will become an expert tattoo artist.
When the time is right your teacher will decide that you have learned all that you can, and that you are ready to become a true tattoo artist. Depending on the contract you signed with your mentor, you may be required to continue working there for a period of time, or you may be able to go off on your own. You may be interested in opening your own tattoo shop, or you can find another parlour that will take you on.
Being a tattoo artist requires devotion and a willingness to continually learn new techniques. It can take from 1-5 years to train to become a tattoo artist, so you will want to make sure that you are ready to undertake this commitment before you begin.Mat Fay
Many people have a dream of becoming a singer or a band member. They want to enter in the music industry, share their talent and show their passion for music. Nowadays, audio mastering and voice over recording is no longer expensive, due to the evolution of digital mixers and digital mastering software. They have made visiting a music studio more affordable and setting up one easier. Despite the digital manipulation, it is still a lengthy process and should be done by only editing the music. For getting perfection, years of practice must be needed. That’s why, it is important to choose the right recording place with an established reputation for producing quality recording through qualified on-site recording engineer.
While choosing a music studio, you should also consider equipment like mixing console, studio monitors, multi-track recorder, and others that are required to do a good job. Instrumental Music in Public Worship: History Surrounding the Westminster Assembly
FROM: “INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC IN THE PUBLIC WORSHIP OF THE CHURCH”
By John L. Girardeau (Still Waters Revival Books, 2000), pp. 132, 133.
Before the Westminster Assembly of Divines undertook the office of preparing a Directory of Worship, the Parliament had authoritatively adopted measures looking to the removal of organs, along with other remains of Popery, from the churches of England. On the 20th of May, 1644, the commissioners from Scotland wrote to the General Assembly of their church and made the following statement among others: “We cannot but admire the good hand of God in the great things done here already, particularly that the covenant, the foundation of the whole work, is taken, Prelacy and the whole train thereof extirpated, the service-book in many places forsaken, plain and powerful preaching set up, many colleges in Cambridge provided with such ministers as are most zealous of the best reformation, altars removed, the communion in some places given at the table with sitting, THE GREAT ORGANS AT PAUL’S AND PETER’S IN WESTMINSTER TAKEN DOWN (emphasis added), images and many other monuments of idolatry defaced and abolished, the Chapel Royal at Whitehall purged and reformed; and all by authority, in a quiet manner, at noon-day, without tumult.”1 So thorough was the work of removing organs that the “Encyclopaedia Britannica” says that “at the Revolution most of the organs in England had been destroyed.”2
When, therefore, the Assembly addressed itself to the task of framing a Directory for Worship, it found itself confronted by a condition of the churches of Great Britain in which the singing of psalms without instrumental accompaniment almost universally prevailed. In prescribing, consequently, the singing of psalms without making any allusion to the restoration of instrumental music, it must, in all fairness, be construed to specify the simple singing of praise as a part of public worship. The question, moreover, is settled by the consideration that had any debate occurred as to the propriety of allowing the use of instrumental music, the Scottish commissioners would have vehemently and uncompromisingly opposed that measure. But Lightfoot, who was a member of the Assembly, in his “Journal of its Proceedings”3 tells us: “This morning we fell upon the Directory for singing of psalms; and, in a short time, we finished it.” He says that the only point upon which the Scottish commissioners had some discussion was the reading of the Psalms line by line.
